A sweep takes on average, about an hour, depending on the type of sweep (manual or rotary power sweep).

The techniques I have been taught are effective in containing the soot in 99.9% of circumstances. I have a lot of high-quality purpose made dust sheets and a powerful vacuum with fine filtration. However, should the worst happen and I can’t sort it then and there, I am committed to ensuring a good outcome, including arranging for a cleaner.

Customers must check their home insurance policy as they often dictate the frequency. The advice from the Guild of Master Sweeps sometimes changes depending on what fuel is predominantly used in the appliance and how often the appliance is used.

Here is a guide to the frequency:

  • Smokeless coal: once per year.
  • Kiln dried logs: twice per year – once halfway through the burn season and again at the end. For occasional use, once per year should be enough.
  • Gas or oil appliances: once per year.

My standard charge for a domestic open fire or wood burner is £75 including an inspection, sweep, smoke test and certificate.

Please feel free to call me on 07500 046899 for an accurate quote depending on your requirements.

I accept payments by card (I have a card machine), bank transfer or cash.

It is more than likely that the chimney is blocked. Open all the windows and doors in your house and allow the fire to go out or extinguish it with a small amount of water. Don’t re-light until the appliance and flue have been inspected.
